Hybrids Safer for Passengers, More Deadly to Pedestrians

According to a study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a hybrid version of a passenger car is safer than a conventional gas-powered one for occupants. This is because a hybrid model typically weighs more.  The study also found that hybrid owners are 25% less likely to be injured in an accident than people traveling in an identical, conventional gas engine.  On the other hand, hybrids are 20% more likely to injure pedestrians due to their quiet nature, especially at low speeds.
