Recently the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a formal investigation into the Chevy Volt and the potential for fires after a crash. No consumer related fires have been reported, but GM is offering free loaner vehicles to Volt owners who are concerned with their electric cars catching fire. Several Volt test vehicles caught fire due to batteries being damaged during crash testing. GM has not put a time limit on how long Volt owners can keep the loaner cars. For more information, you can contact your local Chevy dealer.
