Protect Your Home From Fires

Did you know that cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires?  Leaving cooking unattended is the number one contributing factor to house fires.  If you are cooking, be sure that anything that can catch fire is away from your stovetop.  According to the Tucson Fire Department, you should check your smoke alarms once a month and change batteries out annually.  Almost two thirds of home fire deaths result from fires in homes in which there were no smoke alarms, or the smoke alarms were not working properly.  Practice an escape plan with your family: knowing what to do beforehand is the best way to prevent death and injury from a fire.  If you have a cooking fire, get out and call 911 after your are away from the fire.  Be sure to close the door behind you(if you can) to contain the fire.  Following these useful tips can help save a life and your home.
