Recent Recalls

Recalls are necessary when a product is discovered to have safety issues. Recalls are an effort to limit liability for corporate negligence (which can cause costly legal penalties) and to improve or avoid damage to publicity. Recalls are made very frequently on a variety of products, ranging from children’s toys to fruits and vegetables. It is always important to check for recall notices before making a major purchase. To follow is a list of recent recalls:

Name of Product: Dirt Bikes
Importer: Baja Inc. d/b/a Baja Motorsports, of Anderson, S.C., all model DR50 and DR70 Baja dirt bikes with vehicle identification number (VIN) beginning with “L98,” the letter “B” as the 10th character of the VIN and having a yellow dot or line marked on or near the VIN
Hazard: The fuel tank can leak, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 16 reports of fires from leaking fuel, including two reports of minor burns to consumer’s legs and one report of a minor burn to a consumer’s finger.
Sold at: Pep Boys and other motor sports stores nationwide from December 2010 through January 2012 for between $450 and $650.

Manufacturer: Harley-Davidson Motor Company
Harley Davidson is recalling accessory brake line kits sold for installation on certain model year 1996-2012 Dyna and certain model year 1999-2012 Softail motorcycles due to potential leaks.
Consequence: If a leak occurs and remains undetected, the rider may have reduced braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.

XS Scuba Recalls Miflex High Pressure Diving Hoses Due to Drowning Hazard
Name of Product: Miflex High Pressure Scuba Diving Hoses
Distributor/Importer: XS Scuba, Inc., of Santa Ana, Calif.
Manufacturer: Miflex 2, Villasanta, Italy
Hazard: The diving hose can rupture reducing the available air supply to the diver, posing a drowning hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: XS Scuba has received reports of 189 hose failures. There have been no reports of injuries.
Description: The high pressure hose is used to monitor cylinder pressure for the air supply in tanks for scuba diving. The hoses have MFX stamped on the hose’s end fitting. They were sold as individual replacement gauge hoses and as cascade hoses and in the following kits and model numbers:

Summary: Michelin North America, Inc. (Michelin) is recalling certain MICHELIN XZU3 LRJ, SIZE 305/85R22.5, and MICHELIN XZU2 LRJ, SIZE 12R22.5, tires produced between October 23, 2005 and September 3, 2011; and MICHELIN XM505 LRJ, SIZE 305/85R22.5, tires produced between April 18, 2010, and May 8, 2010 and January 23, 2011, and February 12, 2011. These tires have a casing that may experience a loss of integrity and, in some cases, have rapid air loss.
Consequence: Rapid air loss of the tire while the vehicle is in use could result in a crash.
